Team In
Training:
Currently, I am enrolled in The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society Team in Training program. The organization
provides training and support to amateur athletes to
complete a marathon, 100 mile century ride or an Olympic
distance Triathlon. In return, participants seek
sponsors. Over 75% of the donations are allocated to
families stricken with blood related cancers and
research. Less than 25% of the funds raised will pay for
materials, coaching, staff and even cost. |

Triathlon Teammates W/ Catherine Hugo |
I am training
to participate in an Olympic Distance Triathlon which consists
of a 1500-meter (0.9 mile) swim, 40-kilometer (24.8 mile)
bicycle race and a 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) run. My goal is to
raise $5200. Thank you to friends and co-workers I am well on
the way to meeting my goal. To further reach the goal a raffle
will be conducted. In Miami, Jimmie Brown has donated a 4-hour
fishing trip for two and John Coe has contributed a bi-plane
ride. In Louisville, a hot air balloon ride and the Louisville
Hyatt Downtown contributed a one-night stay for two.
Please visit
this web site to track my training activities and fund raising
progress. I will also post the winners of the raffle. Thank you
for your support.
Update 9
April 2004
Participation in the Team in Training
Triathlon Postponed!!!!
The Good News: I have been
awarded a UPS Boeing 757 and 767 Captain Upgrade Training slot.
After ten years, I will finally make the move to the left seat
and be the boss. This will increases the responsibility, pay,
gray hairs and further loss of hair (what's left). Originally,
training was to begin at the end of June, but UPS changed the
class date. Training begins on May 3rd in Louisville and should
be completed in 6 to 8 weeks. Fortunately, the Captain
assignment is for Miami and I will not have to move.
Additional
Good News!!!: I have received over $2000 in pledges from
friends and colleagues. Please continue to donate!!! I hope to
ultimately participate in the TNT Triple Crown consisting in an
Olympic distance Triathlon, 100-mile bicycle race and the
ultimate, a marathon.
The Bad
News: The Captain upgrade course directly conflicts with my
Team In Training (TNT). Further, a foot injury has also
adversely impacted training. Physical therapy will hopefully set
me in the right direction. Therefore, I will not participate in
the King's Trail Triathlon. The Leukemia Society will allow me
to continue training as my schedule and physical condition
permits. I expect to participate in either the Fall or Winter
Team in Training program to fulfill my commitment after
completing my pilot training.
I look forward to your email with
your thoughts!!!!
